About SCC

History of Springfield Country Club

In 1897, when Riverdale Street in West Springfield was a countrified thoroughfare and most of the main roads were farmland, Mr. Donald Ross, one of the most famous golf course design architects in the world, came in and created the course’s original design.

In 1899, the Springfield Country Club acquired additional acreage; tennis courts were built, and the clubhouse was expanded.

By 1900, the golf course grew from nine holes to eighteen holes.  As the golf course grew, the clubhouse did as well. This year was when the membership at Springfield Country Club surpassed the 400 mark.

In May 1907, the season opened with a newly remodeled clubhouse complete with many new furnishings.  Then early one morning, a tragedy struck engulfing the clubhouse in flames and burning the facility down to the ground.

In 1908, the grand opening of a brand-new clubhouse occurred.  Today, with some remodeling and renovations, the Springfield Country Club stands majestically commanding the hilltop where it was first placed in 1907.

Many generations of families have enjoyed Springfield Country Club and its’ amenities.

Over the past 125 years, Springfield Country Club has provided and enhanced the quality of life for its’ members, guests, and the staff. This tradition continues to this day.

The association that members enjoy with one another is a pleasure all year round!

From the grand clubhouse to the pristine course conditions, this club never disappoints. Looking for a high-end restaurant that features outdoor dining with an incredible view? SCC has it. Looking for casual dining with an affordable menu that is family friendly? SCC has that too. How about a sports bar with six televisions to catch your favorite team play? Our Tavern restaurant has it. And, what about an Olympic sized outdoor pool to splash around with the kids during the summer heat? We have that too, with a food and beverage staff taking orders and delivering refreshments right to your poolside lounge chair. Best of all? There just happens to be a championship 18-hole golf course to play, featuring some of the fastest greens in Western Massachusetts, and a 3-tiered grass driving range to practice on.
